Pencil and oil crayon drawing on canvas paper

Size h 40 × w 30 cm

Synkende is Norwegian for descending or sinking. The colours and shapes in this face are floating downwards. Is it age or sadness we follow in the lines and colours. Is this “head” about to say something. The wide open eyes are looking directly at me. The colour of the pupils being much paler than the vivid blush of the persons burning cheeks and glowing mouth. But the eyes are surrounded by a clear blue. What is it Sophia wants to tell me with this head coming out from the left side like a question mark?

Sophia Wessel has loved drawing and creating since childhood. Most of her work is inspired from her life. Much of the art is an expression of the artist’s experience with schizophrenia. The art is often very personal, and she shares a lot of on her Instagram.
