Title: Beyond
Size h 57 × w 44 cm
Clouds beyond clouds above me, Wastes beyond wastes below; (Emily Brontë).
These two lines are from Brontës poem The night is darkening round me. The title of this art work lead me to think of this poem. And when I look at the glowing, red colour meeting the intense blue, I cannot feel other than spellbound. And I believe that is what Brontë is trying to explain in her poem. That sometimes spellbound, though scary, can be an emotion we long for and seek. And while I am reading the poem, the shape in the blue landscape turns into a beating and longing heart.
Eva Sjøwall creates her non-figurative artworks by mixing media. They are something in between a painting, a print and a drawing. She herself says that she never intends to create a specific motif. However, it seems that most of her buyers find a concrete motif in her works. Suddenly a sailboat, a landscape, a plant, a house appear as if out of nowhere. This is the joy of putting one's own thoughts and lived life into the storytelling of a work of art.
